Nickel Nickel Dime, Nickel Dime

So last weekend Kelly and I trekked to Blacksburg to visit Kristin and her man Raf. Unfortunately, he had to work Saturday night, so it was just the three of us. After killing some time by watching the olympics, we went to dinner at an Italian place (whose name I forget) which turned out to be pretty good. I was in the mood for Chinese, but got outvoted by the women. So anyway, after dinner we stopped by Cold Stone for some ice cream, then went back to Kristin's for coffee and cake all while playing a rousing game of Scrabble. That's where I came up with a new spelling for European currency, the Yoro. We'll just say it was quite a hoot.

The next morning we all went to Gillies for breakfast. I almost made myself get the Michael Phelps omlet - a five egg concoction with onions, peppers, and cheese. Instead, I went for a breakfast quesadilla. I saw a guy order the MP omlet and what a plate filling mound that was. He couldn't finish it, and he was a bigger boy than me. After we got back to Kristin's, we hung around for a bit then got on the road.

We stopped in Augusta County to have lunch with Mom and Granny, then went over to see Will since he was in for the week (see last post). We got to see what I call my 2nd family, which is always a delight.

Once we returned to Inwood, we performed our usual weekend duties. Monday was our day off, so we decided to sleep in and get some much needed rest. We spent part of the day finishing up what we didn't get done day before, and the rest of the day was just hanging around.

This past week was full of training at work, so nothing exciting there. This week should be somewhat busy, with plenty of work to do and more training coming up.

Hotboxing Testosterone

So it began a couple Saturdays ago. We started the day like many others, at the gym. After getting swole, we headed down to Gander Mountain in Winchester. A large store for the outdoorsmen, the entrance was barely big enough for us to get through (figuratively, of course). Losing track of time was easy for us there. After making our purchases, we went north into WV and went to Viva for mexican. From there, Dom called his special lady and she met us at the movies where we all saw Dark Knight. Once that was over, we went back to Dom's and did a semi-thorough breakdown of Rosie. Then it was back home for some well earned sleep.
During the week, we were able to make time to watch The Big Lebowski. We celebrated with oat sodas.

After heading to the indoor range a few times throughout the week, we gathered a small arsenal and headed for Sleepy Creek.
What you see here is me with the Big Daddy, and Dom with his .30-06, his slug gun, and Little Elvis. We were also privileged to fire some other rifles owned by some of the locals as well as trying to hit a target with a handgun at 100 yards...which I didn't accomplish at all. At least I hit the dirt pile. Not to worry, there's not a football field's length of open space in any house I'll be living in. I was certainly making the milk jugs and detergent containers jump at 25 yards, well over the range I'll be dealing with indoors.

Don't follow too close, we leave a pretty massive wake where we tread.

Oh This Burning Beard

I was driving to work the other day and I realized I haven't made any mention about the Clutch concert I went to. So to summarize the weekend of March 23, 2008, I went to Richmond to stay with my old roommate Ben.

As it happened, Ben was also moving into his new place the day after the concert. I still say Dunkin' Donuts stole my idea for their commercial from that day. Nevertheless, we had the concert Saturday and the big move on Sunday.

As you can see, Neil Fallon was all over the place on guitar, vocals, and all around putting on a great show. Clutch was preceded by Murder By Death, a good band to open. The concert lasted a couple hours and played some great songs. They opened with 'Gravel Road.' At one point, they played the first three songs off their newest album in a row, which flowed nicely and was met with a huge response from the crowd. Near the end and leading into 'Burning Beard' was one of the best drum solos any of us had ever seen. Afterward we went back to Ben's place and got some sleep before moving the next day.
